New Life Church of the Nazarene Core Beliefs

The Church of the Nazarene is a Protestant Christian denomination in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, emphasizing a life of holiness through the power of the Holy Spirit. The core beliefs of the Church of the Nazarene can be summarized as follows:

Trinitarian Theology

The Church of the Nazarene believes in one God, eternally existent in three persons (The Trinity): Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Bible

The Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is regarded as the inspired Word of God and is the authoritative rule for faith and practice.

Salvation through Jesus Christ

Salvation is a crucial doctrine, emphasizing personal faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. We believe:

  • Justification: God's act of removing the guilt of sin and declaring a sinner righteous.
  • Regeneration: The new birth, where one becomes a new creature in Christ.
  • Adoption: Becoming a child of God and a part of His family.
  • Entire Sanctification: We believe that believers, after conversion, can be entirely sanctified by the Holy Spirit. This is a second work of grace, where one is purified from sin and empowered for holy living.

Holiness and Sanctification

We believe in Christian perfection. This belief is rooted in the Wesleyan tradition, where Christians are taught that they can be fully sanctified in this life. Through the Holy Spirit, believers are called to live a holy life, free from the power of sin, and to be conformed to the image of Christ. We believe this is an instantaneous act and an ongoing, daily surrender to God's will.

The Church

We believe in the unity of all believers in Christ. The Church is both universal and local, where believers gather for worship, fellowship, discipleship, and service. The sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion) are observed as means of grace.

Baptism

The Church practices baptism as an outward sign of inward grace. Baptism is performed in various forms (sprinkling, pouring, or immersion) and is seen as a declaration of one’s faith.

Second Coming of Christ

The Church of the Nazarene holds to a future, literal return of Jesus Christ, where He will establish His eternal kingdom. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead and the final judgment, where believers will be rewarded with eternal life, and the unrepentant will face eternal separation from God.

Mission and Service

A strong commitment to mission work and compassionate ministries is central to our identity. We believe in the importance of evangelism, social justice, and the transformation of society by spreading the Gospel and serving those in need.
